How do I get rid of tadpoles in my atrium water garden?
Question:I, unwittingly, purchased water plants from a source that I think had tadpoles. Soon after I noticed multiple very small swimmers. After spraying my acquatic plants with liquid Seven, the population diminished a bit--I think. I now notice a more mature group of tadpoles. Knowing they will turn into frogs, I must discard of them as this is a contained area in the middle of my house. There is no escape for them as all four sides of the atrium are enclosed--it is only open to the sky. I would appreciate any advice on this matter. Already, the sounds of night critters from inside and outside of the atrium are equivalent to a symphony orchestra. I actually enjoy the sound but I don't think I could handle hopping frogs all over the place. Thanks for your support. CAT

Hello Cat, if none of the above are feasible, you could put a small predator fish in there. Go to a pet shop like Petsmart or a small local shop and see what they have. Explain what you need to accomplish and they'll take it from there. You may even decide to keep the fish, he won't roam around.
Hope this helps ;-)
Well, you COULD just wait untill they become frogs, then catch and release them. Another way would be to fish them out of there with an aquarium net. The last thing I can think of might not be as humane, but if you know anyone with aquatic turtles, like Red-eared Sliders, Painted Turtles, or a medium sized Snapping turtle, you could ask to borrow them for a while. They will most likely eat up all of the tadpoles. Good luck!
The tadpoles and frogs must be eating something, otherwise they would just die off. Their main diet is flies and mosquitoes. Perhaps you are fortunate to have them. They will eat small fish, however. If you have, or rather had any, that would be a concern. My concern about catching and releasing them is if they are not native frogs or toads. That could start a problem. Find out what they are before you do that. Personally, I would just enjoy them. I don't like poison so I have no recommendations as to what to kill them with. Call your local agriculture agent, perhaps they can help.
P.S. They won't give you warts, but the liquid that many frogs and toads expel when handled can be slightly irritating to sensitive skin. Wash your hands after handling them.
let the frogs grow then have them handpicked and moved outside, then don't allow anumore frogs to invade your atrium so none will lay ytheir eggs anymore.
