HELP! I've been invaded by fruit flies!!?

Question:We returned home a couple days ago from vacation to a kitchen full of fruit flies. How do I get rid of them for good??

Answers:
Fruit flies a are seasonal problem most often being severe in the late summer and early fall. Sometimes they seem to take over a home or other building. They are small, quick and if you look closely are almost an orange color. They are seen on and near fruit, vegetables, and trash containers. Populations increase quickly in the fall when fruits and vegetables are ripening in homes, garages and gardens. There is a relationship between outdoor trash, dumpsters and indoor populations. When it gets too cool for these pests outdoors, they dwindle indoors also. Removal or refrigeration of fruits and vegetables can establish control. Dirty trashcans and dumpsters should be removed also from garages or cleaned often.

put 1/2-1 cup of Apple cider Vinigar in a custard dish along with 3-4 drops of dish saop. I put it on my countertop over night.

Get rid of any fruit or vegetables that are rotting on the counters. Put out a bowl of vinegar to attract them and drown them.
Find the source (rotting cherries?) and clean it up (empty the
garbage?). Watermelon? Cantelope? ...
Fruit flies will come where there is fruit to eat and nest in. They do to fruit what normal flies do to meat. to rid yourself of them get rid of any left out fruit. If they still lurk around get a large mason jar and affix a funnel to the top. put a few bits of fruit in the botom of the jar and leave it out for 4 to 5 days. The flies will go in, but will find it difficult to get out because of the funnel shape.
well, find the rotten fruit or food and get rid of it if they dont go away get a sticky fly paper a nd hang it where there are the most. if this does not work you might want to get a bug spray even before you do that.
They might not be fruit flies. They could be Gnats, they look like fruit flies. They live of the fresh soil & dead root´s from your household plant´s. So the best way to rid them is to dry the plant´s out for a couple of days , also put the stopper in your kitchen sink at night. This way they won´t be tempted to settle in this nice damp place . ready to invade , your plant´s next day. Having said this, if you have ripe fruit in your kitchen , best keeping it inthe fridge . Then you will know if it´s fruit flies or not
