Cleaning the home after Bombing for roaches?
Question:Our residence has to be bomb for roaches. How do you clean-up afterwards? Will pets be safe? I was told it was sticky, and you would have to wipe everything down.
Answers:
When bombing, read and follow the label directions, and these will provide a safe methods for use. I nuked my house about 18 years ago (was moving into it from a completely infested apartment complex) and have seen only one roach in the intervening years. I used an organophosphate (OP)bomb, one with pyrethroids (cyfluthrin, bifenthrin, permethrin, or cypermethrin), and one with methoprene. - Overkill!
The OP and pyrethroid bombs killed all the roaches running about, both juveniles and adults, but does not affect roach eggs. This is what the methoprene is for. Methoprene is an insect growth regulator, and prevents baby roaches from becoming adults. So after bombing, all the adults and juveniles are killed, and once the eggs hatch, all the baby bugs remain babies; no more adults = no more eggs, and you break the cycle.
Pets:
Avoid bombs with chlorpyrifos (dursban) as some cats are very sensitive to this insecticide. Dogs are OK. For all bombs, cover or remove tropical fish tanks and reptiles. Frogs are very, very sensitive.
Put food in refrigerator, wash dishes/utensiles/pots/pans with warm soapy water. Stay out of the house for the time listed on the label, aerate as recommended.
Again, it comes down to the instructions on the label. Read and follow them and you will have no problems.
YOU NEED TO WASH EVERYTHING DOWN WITH SOAP AND WATER AND WASH YOUR BEDDING AND TOWELS AND ANYTHING YOU COME IN CONTACT WITH
Best to plan on washing everything including walls, floors, clothes towels, beds. EVERYTHING
The bombs are designed to put insecticide everywhere. Anything that was not sealed air tight will have the insecticide on it.
If this was professionally done you should have been given instructions on what to do before the bombing and after.
If you just used of the shelf bobs yourself. The instructions that came with the bombs should explain what to do.
Either way DO NOT eat any food exposed to the insecticide without a thorough washing. Food in the fridge should be relativly safe but I'd wash it to be on the safe side.
usually, the bombers don't want you to clean after the place has been bombed, because you will wash away the pesticide and it will not kill the roaches as good, or at all. this is not safe for people or pets. wash the surfaces of your home where the pesticide was put, except for the cracks, normally where the roaches crawl out from. also any place people or pets don't go near can the pesticid be left alone. clean your home again after a month to get rid of the pesticide still remaining.
