OK, I've been out to sea for quite awhile, but this is cracking me up?

Question:I can't believe someone actually went and invented a chicken plucking machine! They look so prehistoric! My mind is boggled, what ever happen to old time do it your self hand pluckin. Ha! Anyone actually use one of these things?

Answers:
I am going to asume the chicken(s) is/are
already dead and ready for plucking. First you
need a bucket of boiling hot water large enough
to fit the whole feathered bird. hold the ends of the
wings and legs together and dip the chicken in the
water. the machine should already be on! stil holding
the bird in the same manner place the wet bird on
the machine and rotate the chicken until nearly all
feathers are reamoved. You will probably have to
pluck remaining feathers by hand. Good luck and
have fun!

Depending on the type they are very efficient. I've used the ones that mount over a trash can or drum and have the rubber fingers with slits in them. They make quick work of the plucking job, especially when one is butchering off 80+ in a day. Hand plucking that many would take many more hours than I'm willing to invest.

I've also used it for ducks and geese as well as pheasant. The pheasant has a thinner skin and it has a tendency to tear if you're not careful. Quail, dove, grouse, etc all have skin that is way too thin to use with the automatic plucking machine so I still do these by hand.
They work quite well on wild turkey too. I usually breast mine out, but I had occation to stop by a poultry farm and paid a kid 10.00 to throw my turkey in there.
Looked like I bought it at Albertsons [a grocery store].
