What can be done to get rid of, and keep rid of, tent worms?

Question:Does any one know a good, inexpensive way to get rid of these things. The worms that live in a giant web type thing on trees? They spread quickly, and burning them is not an option at this point, however, killing them is! If not getting rid of them at least stop them from spreading to neighboring trees?

Answers:
Bayer Advanced has a insecticide out on the market called Tree and Shrub. It is a liquid that you mix with water and pour around the base of the tree. The tree soaks it up and it protects the tree from insects for 12 months. You use it yearly in the fall or early spring. This has kept the tent worms off of my trees for 2 years. Something in this product makes my trees unattractive to them! What else I love is that since you mix and pour, you don't have to worry about spraying or trying to burn those bags that you just can't reach. You should be able to find this product at Home Depot, Lowes or your local garden center. It is too late this spring to apply, but get some and apply it this fall - you shouldn't have any tent worms next year! Good Luck!

Break the web with a stick and spray with bug killer. We purchased heavy duty killer from Menards. This seems to be doing the trick. We have had alot more of these nasty things this spring for some reason, so have been checking the trees a couple times a week. Good luck.
