A not particularly exciting but very practical question, please...?
Question:My brother & I recently gave my mum a new cooker for a birthday present.
However, the glass oven door has an "industrial-strength" sticker on it. How does one remove the sticker COMPLETELY without damaging the door ? Any particular substance that will be safe to use ? I live in the UK, so it must be something easily available here.
Thanks in advance for all answers.
Bless you.
Answers:
Try very hot water with good washing up liquid first to soak it. Then try vinegar later.
vinegar - blasts most glues
Rubbing alcohol will take the sticker off and not harm the glass. I've used for many stickers.
Laying a piece of regular tape over the sticker and then pulling it fast may make the sticker come off with the tape.
Do not scrape as this may leave gouges, scratches and gashes.
For persistent stickers: try soaking it with warm water for a few minutes, or with a wet paper towel.
A solvent such as De-Solv-It will quickly dissolve and remove the hardest of adhesive tapes and labels. Once the sticker has softened gently rub with a sponge or soft nylon scraper.
WD40 works
Here in US I use a product called Disolve-It. It's a citrus oil so I'm sure there must be a comparable product there! You could also try soaking it in hot sudsy water then gently scraping it off. Good luck, wish my kids bought me a new oven!
There is a product in DIY shops actually called "Sticky Stuff Remover" it works.
.
nail varnish remover will shift it
Lighter fluid works very well for dissolving adhesive.
Mineral spirit based oil or alcohol should break the bond.
Use alcohol. (ups u cant buy pure alcohol in the uk.) Try damping it with really hot water, then use white spirit. Make sure its on glass and make sure it doesn't run over the paint! White spirit is likely to damage plastics and paint
Get some surgical spirit from your local pharmacy. It removes all kinds of sticky marks and stubborn stains, and leaves no marks or greasy lines. Simply put some on a rag and wipe on.
Use a hair dryer or a heat gun on medium pointed at the label to soften up the glue underneath it. It's an oven door and should stand a bit of heat after all.
WD-40
Safest option ring the supplier you purchased it from
wood polish
I had a similar problem with a sticker that nothing took off. Then one of my friends told me to use wood polish. the spray on type, Wow it worked
Lighter fluid will take that right off. If the oven is gas, turn it off before you use the fluid. My sister says nail polish remover will work, too. Make sure you wash the door with soap and water to get any left over fluid off.
try surgical spirit, but make sure you clean it off thoroughly, i used it on a washing machine that had the same prob, hope it works, and what lovely men to buy your mum such a prezzie
I used 'goo gone' or 'goof off' - it's especially made for stickers, markers, paint drips, etc.
it's easy to use and very effective!
I used it when I cleaned houses to get ready for market sale.
Any paint store or paint section should carry it or anything equivalant.
If it is a paper sticker then try sothering it with mayo, sounds stupid i know, massage it it espesh around the edges. Leave for 20-30mins and then get something plastic to scrape it of with.
hot soapy water first to get off the sticker and then some dolvent to remove the gum
