What happened to my ivy?
Question:Okay, so when I moved in, the previous tenant left an ivy plant on top of the kitchen cupboards. It was big and beautiful. But ever since I moved in, it just turned completely brown and is almost completely dead now. I know I didn't OVER water but I didn't UNDER water, either. What else could have happened to it? Oh, one more thing; it was placed right in front of a heater vent. But once I noticed it was dying, I took it down but it continued to die. My husband thinks I'm a plant murderer. But I think it was something else. HELP!
Answers:
If it was near a heat source, it may have red spider mites. These critters love dry plants and will kill a plant, in no time.
If any of it is still alive, remove it from the pot, swish it in slightly soapy water, rinse it, then repot it, using new soil and a new pot.
Go to a gardener, or a plant specialist at a larger hardware store and ask why your plant is dying. Maybe you should had asked the person before you what they put on the plant to keep it growing. Try some fertilizer and new soil.
