Washing your Yard?

Question:I just recently bought some sod from an awkward place i'll never go back to. The man there seemed knowledgable and told me to drip a little Ivory Soap on the sod. He said it acts as a pesticide and suffocates local pests and he does it every year and his grass is nice.

I would think soap would be harmful to grass. Is this man crazy?

Answers:
No, the man is not crazy. Google "ivory soap insecticide" and you'll see why.

Ivory soap is a natural insecticide, and applied properly, will not harm your lawn.

I have rinsed out some of my house plants with soapy water. It kills grubs, etc... I would hope that your new sod doesn't have insects, but I would definitely try a small portion b4 doing the whole thing
Hi there

Looks like it may be more to do with checking for bugs that killing them - see link:

I have used a sprayed dilution of liquid soap to kill bugs on roses - but can't imagine it working on grass!

Good luck!

Edit: Ouch, I've just tried this link from the question page and it doesn't work, may be a glitch but sorry anyway, just go to Yahoo search bar and type in "liquid soap bugs" and it should work.
I don't know if he is crazy but he may be misinformed. Ivory soap is no substitute for insecticidal soap sold at your local home and garden store. The first thing you should do is determine weather or not you really have an insect problem. To apply the insecticidal soap you should follow the instructions on the package. Check out this link.
