Help - Mould on Bathtub Mat?

Question:I have a black substance forming underneath a mat in the bathtub I believe it is mould I was wondering what is the best way to remove this and how can I prevent this from happening again? This is the fourth mat that has been affected.

Answers:
The only sure-fire way to rid yourself of mold caused by humidity (this is what's happening to your mats...) is to use bleach to kill it and the spores and make certain it doesn't come back. Unless you let humidity accumulate again. So to prevent mold coming back once you've erased every trace of it, after your bath or shower, turn your mat suction-side up on the rim of the tub. Wipe it off with a soft cloth and complete the process by air-drying it. If you don't like that idea and it's just too much hassle, roll the mat and stand it up in the tub. Of course there will still be humidity, but it won't be as bad as leaving the mat sitting in the bottom of a wet or humid tub. Standing it will allow most of the water to drain and you won't have to do the bleach process again for awhile.

Happy scrubbing!

Use 2 parts water to 1 part bleach. Use rubber gloves. Turn your mat upside down in the bath and slowly pour the mix over the mold covered mat. Let it soak for at least 3 hours. Rinse the mat.

Repeat the process, only this time, using a rag, soft bristle brush or sponge (I prefer a soft bristle brush, even a soft toothbrush in hard to reach places), brush away the remaining mold. Rinse well with water that is as hot as you can stand with rubber gloves.

Repeat this process

bleach it. and clean and rinse and allow to dry on a regular basis. I have a white mat which I put in a bucket of water with about 1/2c bleach and clean and allow it to hang dry on a regular basis. After its bleached I wash it well and allow it to dry
There isn't much you can do at this point ~ you can try to soak it in bleach and scrub off the mold it with a soft brush.

What we do, is pull the mat out of the tub after bathing, and flip it upsidedown on the side of the tub so it can air dry between uses.
Clean it &clean it often.

Place a towel under it or something to help absorb the water maybe.
Hang the mat up to dry after it gets wet (ie, after you shower). The mold is probably from the mat sitting in water.
Put it in your washer with some bleach ,.when you get out of the tub ...pull it up and lay over side of tub...no more mold...
