I am about to move and will need to get the electricity turned on under my name for the first time (Texas).?

Question:Do you have any advice or recommendations as far as electric companies that I might want to check with? It's the first time I am doing this so I'm a little confused as to whats the best thing to do. This is the only "utility" bill I have as the water is paid for, I'm not sure if that makes a difference in the electric bill at all. Is there any such thing as a student or first time discount? I live in Houston, Texas. Thanks!

Answers:
Go to your local Houston municipalities page in the phone book or on line. They will give you a list of who to contact to set up first-time service. It might likely require a deposit, which will be refunded with your service termination when the final bill is paid in full.

Good luck!

I would check with your landlord to see if they can make any recommendations. They will usually have a pretty good idea on what other renters use and should also be able to give you an estimate on what you can expect to pay each month.
