Getting canning jars hot?
Question:What's the best way to get my jars hot before I put them in hot water? (easiest and safest ways)
Answers:
My mom did a lot of canning when we were young, and when I had my own family I also started canning. The way that she taught me to heat the jars - and yes, this is a very necessary task - was to set them inside the sink and fill them with HOT water from the tap and then fill the sink with hot water too. Maybe old fashioned, but it keeps the jars hot for quite a long time.
Jars must be heated for 10 minutes before filling to help prevent jar breakage. Submerge jars in enough water to cover and bring water to a simmer (180 deg.) keeping jars in simmering water until ready for use. Remove jars one at a time as they are needed for filling.
Your jars do not need to be hot to start with. You should wash them and rinse them very carefully, then place them in a pot of water and then heat the jars and water at the same time.
Hope this helps.

You can use cold jars provided you are not adding hot food! (sigh)
I do mine 3 at a time in the micorwave.Works really well
Fill each jar half full of water and microwave on high for 5 mins.
Leave water in jars and empty the water only as you fill them.
I've never had anything spoil.
