What's a good way to get rid of ants?
Question:With all the rain we have been having, these guys are everywhere. I've tried the fire ant killers, put they just laugh at me and move a little further over on the lawn. I'm tired of being laughed at - I want to own them! Gimme some ammo!
Answers:
sprinkle instant grits on the mound and in general just around it...the grits swell whent he ants eat it and poof no more ants. It's also cheap and nontoxic!
you should set them on fire
Ohhhhh (shiver) do I want to help you OWN these ants!
The killers are probably washing away. Find the beds where they live. Place something on top of them to make it inconvenient for them, causing them to relocate. If this killers won't work then moving them is your only hope. You might also consider finding what their source of food is and removing it. You may have something attractive nearby.
You could also buy an anteater but that's a last resort.
I've been fighting the same problem for years and have tired everything. I came up with this two prong approach.
What seems to work best is, believe it or not, flying insect spray.
Why? No idea I discovered that by accident. It's not a long term solution but it kills on contact and keeps them away for a few days. Then you have time to use step two. I spray the areas where they seem to come from with a product called SEVEN.
It takes awhile to work but it will keep them away for awhile. Spray the ground around your house also.
There is no preferment solution to ants. Even the pro's do not guarentee for ants.
to get rid of ants the best method is to put some TURMERIC powder where they come..and also from where they come..just sprinkle this for some days they would disappear ...
Well if the ants are coming inside the house I have used vegetable oil or WD40 around the doors and windows. I have also read that if you sprinkle corn meal around (probably would work if you put if on their ant hills) this helps kill them off too. Good luck!
I have never had to battle fire ants, but I have had very good luck with TERRO. Its a boric acid based ant killer that you put on pieces of cardboard and place in the area of the ants. The ants like the sweet taste, eat it, carry it back to the ant hill and start to die and their fellow ants eat them and eventually poison the whole hill. I use it both inside and outside. You can find it in any store in the area of the bug sprays. Be careful that your pets or children do not get into it, as they can get very sick or worse.
BORIC ACID IN POWDER FORM OR TRY USING BOUNCE SHEETS THEY WILL RUN FROM THE SMELL
Well, if you can get a day that it won't rain in the forseeable future, amdro works really well for us. Sprinkle it on and around their mound and DON'T let it get wet. That ruins it. Good luck! I've got the same problem here. So much rain and too many ants.
Good options here. The grits sounds good (brutal).
Gasoline and a match is the most fun.
