How do I get bugs away from my porch light?!?
Question:I'm swarmed by all kinds of flying critters when I come through the apartment door at night. Is there a way to keep these guys away?
Answers:
OK this answer is out there , but I'll give it to ya anyway.
Get a bat.
A friend of mine was having problems with bugs every time he put on lights by his deck. it was so bad he couldn't really use his deck after dark. He purchased 2 bats and the "nest" for em. Put the nest up about 100 yds away from the house. You can see the bats flyin around at dusk. His bug population has gone down dramatically and the bats are no problem.
Not sure this answer will help you anymore than the rest of em , but hopefully it at least entertained ya.
Get a bug zapper and put it about 50 to 100 feet away from the porch light. It'll help a little bit, but the only way to keep them away for good that I can think of is to just turn the light off.
the best way is to change to a yellow globe. It does not attract as many bugs
Yes , get a bug light bulb. It's yellow, made by G.E. and is in a green, white and yellow box.
You can try the yellow light bulb. I know Tastee Freeze and other outside counter businesses use the yellow bulbs on their buildings.
I have read that the bug zappers kill so many good, beneficial, bugs in comparison to the mosquito's that they should not be used. I know they make an annoying sound all night.
I have found that if you can put a motion detector on your porch light you will solve the problem. The bugs won't hang around because the light will be off most of the time. When you are coming and going, you will have lights!
other than a bug zapper, it is best to use a yellow bulb, this seems to attract less bugs
Change to a yellow bug. Get a bug zapper.
Ask the apartment manager if you or an electrician can put in a yellow light. If they say no, looks like you are stuck.
