Is it possible to keep bees away from a hummingbird feeder?
Question:
Answers:
Yes there is. Spray the openings to the feeder with pam cooking spray. It doesn't bother the humming birds but the wasps don't like it! I've done it for years and it has always worked.
I've never had luck doing it, they're both after the same thing.
yes buy some wasp/bee/insect killer and spray on and around the feeder. You can also try white vinegar it keeps insects away also. Give it a try!!!! YOU WILL NOT HARM THE HUMMINGBIRDS
LMAO! I used to see this when I lived out in CA. I would go out and bat the bee's with a yardstick. The hummingbirds seemed to deal with it okay though. I never figured a way to remedy that. ; especially in hot weather when the bee's could smell the sweet stuff. Oh... I had a bad problem one summer and used a shop vac to suck in scores of them. That was fun, 'till the novelty wore off!
If the bees can't get to the sugar water they will go away on their own. The best way to accomplish this is to modify your feeder so that there is a quarter inch or even 5/8 inch stand off at the feeding points. The stand offs should be narrow enough to keep the bee from just crawling in. The hummingbird can feed but the bees can't. Problem solved-no poisons are needed.
