Answers:
TONS of fluid
light, loose clothing, lots of cold water.
don't work outside
Keep out of the sun as much as possible, and drink plenty of water.
If you have no allternative than to be outside when it is hot and humid, the best thing is to stay hydrated, drinking plenty of water. Wrap a wet hankerchief around your neck or place a wet rag around your head area. Keep a cool container of water close by and re-wet the hankerchief as needed.
A couple of things:
1) Drink water.
2) Use cold water on the inside of your elbows, the back of your neck, your whole face (if you would like). Or ice. In those locations on your body.
3) Dress in cotton clothing. It tends to "breathe" and therefore make it more comfortable as opposed to polyester, rayon, and other types of fabrics.
4) If you can tolerate it, consider wearing a hat-even a baseball cap-to help shade your eyes. And, sun glasses.
Please use sun screen as well.
Hope these tips are a help to you. Take care.
This is the best way to cool off outside. Take wristbands, soak them in water, and put them in the fridge/freezer. Then wear them. A major artery runs through your wrists, and if you can cool the blood that runs through it, you will cool your body. Even for a quick fix, you could simply pour cold water over your wrists.
Answer: cool your wrists, and you'll cool your body.
(keep in mind wrists means the wrist area while your palms are up)
I totally agree with Grandma of 2. Best ways to lose heat are firstly, avoid absorbing too much heat, hence the light coloured clothing (black absorbs the most heat) and staying out of direct sunlight if possible (eg. work in the shade, or wear a hat/cap). Secondly, you need to have strategies to lose as much heat as possible, hence the wet neck ties, loads of fluid (so that you can sweat, and when the sweat evaporates from your skin, it removes the heat with it). BTW, isotonic (sport) drinks are absorbed better compared to water. Some wind/breeze will also help the sweat evaporate and therefore cool you down quickly, so if you can have a fan outside, it helps. Hope I've been of some help!
When my hubby works in the grapes,he wears long sleeve cotton shorts and an under shirt. He claims that once he sweats the long sleeves keep the coolness next to his skin.He uses bandannas for his head, that he keeps wet all the time.Hat for his eyes, and drinks plenty of water...
