I have fire ants invading my apartment with my wife and 2 year old son, HELP!?

Question:Is the apartment complex management obligated to take care of this situation. We keep a very clean apartment. Does anyone know of any Georgia laws that require them to take care of this? Like they have to get the Orkin man over here? Thanks.

Have you contacted the leasing office?

Most apartment leases cover pest control. the lease of a home usually does not.

pest control is usually standard in most all leases covered by the "management". check your lease for verification
I had this happen to me when I first moved to Texas, we also had fire ants in Florida where we moved from so it was nothing new. They as a rule are looking for moisture. Our landlord when I called him came over and gave me a spray to use in the house and around the outside along the foundation, this cured things up.
As far as Georgia law goes very few people on the board would know anything about it, but I believe every state has a state office to handle renters complaints. I would recommend that you look in the phone book under "State what ever they call it"
I work in the pest control industry and here would be my tips for you.

First thing you need to do is go outside and find where the ants are coming in. This is where you could treat the area. If you wait for your landlord it might only get worse. $5 to treat it yourself or much more for someone else to do it. Follow the label and remember more is not better.

If you have a 2 year old son chance are the ants forging looking for food and they might be finding crumbs or spilled drinks..They don't need a lot to keep forging. Vacum & mop everyday and only allow your kid (and you) to eat in the kitchen.

Good luck!
Yes, the management is most certainly obligated to get rid of the fire ants professionally, as that's the only way to deal with them. I don't know about laws in Georgia that require management to get rid of the fire ants, but they should have common sense to get rid of these horrible ants. Write a letter of concern to the management about these red fire ants & ask what their intentions are as to getting rid of them. Keep a copy for yourself, & send it via certified mail, so they'll have to sign for it, & you'll get the notice that they did indeed sign for it. Hopefully, they'll have Orkin or Terminix come out & spray. I have Terminx come to my home on a regular basis & they spray my lawn to get rid of those nasty ants. It doesn't cost much & it's well worth it. Having a clean apartment has nothing to do with having ant problems. In the meantime, you could go to Lowe's or Home Depot to get some fireant killer, to put down around your exterior doors.
Hi

Sorry about your inconvinience. I am a horticulturist and I have many questions of Ant's and what not at the Garden Center that I manage. Usually there are two ways to take care of it but you need an immediate control. The ultimate way to nuke the insects in you place is this.
1) Spray the foundation of your home or apartment if allowed with a concentrated version of a chemical called Beta Cyfluthrin it is usually advertised in the active ingredients of most Ant and Termite killer combinations. If your not able to spray the foundation due to your residence being an apartment then you should do this.
2) Spray under the heaters, cabinets, beds, doorways, or almost anything that you wont be sleeping on or eating off of or handling food on with an Indoor Insect control usually available at Home Depots or your local garden center, personally i hate Home Depots.
3) Purchase an indoor insect bomb and after you use the indoor perimeter spray bombs your apartment leave the house for 4 hours after activating and when you return open all the windows and allow it to air out.

Steps 2 and 3 should kill all in your apartment and prevent more from entering but step 1 will prevent almost all from coming into the entire complex, Good luck
