Anyone seen a Hornets nest?
Question:We think it is a hornets nest. It is above our front door under the porch. It is conical in shape, white and perfectly formed, about 3 inches across and three inches deep. (Are we still allowed to talk in feet and inches?) It's a work of art and I would have loved to see them building it but I never noticed Is it a Hornets nest or what?
Answers:
Certainly a Wasps nest if you are in UK. Hornets prefer old,or rotten trees away from human habitation (mostly). Many of these small tennis ball sized nests can be found in lofts, dry barns and roof spaces. The nest is often nothing more than a `starter home` made from masticated wood ,(papier - mache`) the Queen finding a better home, or being killed before nest building is complete. I once saw, photographed and examined a Wasp nest over 8 feet wide x 5 feet tall in an East Anglian roof space. A marvel of nature, that is still there today.
It probably is a hornets nest. I used to have one in the same spot.
Sounds like a hornet's nest. Hornet's nests are papery and conical. And closed in, there should be an entrance hole. Wasp's nests tend to be open- you can see all the little cells.
Unless I'm getting stung, I like to live and let live. Wasps and hornets are actually beneficial in the garden - they are predators that will catch 'bad' insects to feed to their young.
That sure sounds like a hornets nest to me. We have them in our eaves and by our door every spring. I've never seen them actually building it , tho. That would be cool. Anyway, you might want to take it down(make sure no one is in there first!). Hornet stings are really not as much fun as you might think.(lol)
It may be..but go here and look at the pic to be sure

I think so.
Here are picture sites of hornet nests
Good luck.
Hope this helps
No idea, could be a wasps nest. They are beautiful, we get one in a shed every year. Apparently if you leave the wasps alone they'll leave you alone.
