I need a table top glass. What would you recommend? Should I buy regular glass or tempered?
Question:This is to protect nice wooden finish of my desk at home. Desk size is 23 1/2 x 59 7/8 inches. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Answers:
Tempered glass is stronger on the flats and will take more effort to break. The edges are the weakest point of tempered glass and once the edge develops a problem it breaks very easy. Regular glass breaks easy no mater what. A dropped cup could break regular glass. I say have the edges polished round and then have it tempered.
As long as there is wood underneath it I don't think it would matter.
If you have little kids pounding things on it you may want to check on getting something that will take the pounding without shattering.
If you dont have kids get regular if you do have kids get tempered because if it breaks it will break into smaller safer to clean up pieces.
Tempered glass will last much longer as it is much stronger than regular glass. In the long run, the extra expense will be well worth it.
spend the extra buck and buy tempered it is much stronger and better
Call a glass store. I would not consider glass for that application unless it was tempered. I bought some for a couple of tables and the price was reasonable. They also sell some little silicone pads that go on the bottom that prevent the glass from sliding or from sticking to the desktop. They really make for a nice look.
safety, safety,safety
Use tempered glass with a beveled edge..
Tempered! Are you nuts??
