Please, Please, Please Help Me With These Bugs!!?
Question:Alright, so my mom was mowing the yard about an hour ago and came in crying because these small mosquito-looking bugs were swarming her and now she has HUGE welps all over her back and legs...This is the second time it's happened. We called the bug man up and he said they were dirtdivers but i disagree. They look like mosquitoes. and she said they itch really really bad. What are these bugs and how do we get rid of them?
Answers:
Dragonflies eat mosquitoes and their larvae. You can by dragonflies online.
Next, make sure there is no standing water in the area of your backyard. It breeds mosquitoes.
Keep your grass mowed very low.
First of all you and not your Mom should be mowing the yard unless of course you are to young to operate the mower safely. I would call a different Bug man Have min come out walk through the yard then I bet he would come up with something to kill them
I'm not even finding anything about "Dirtdivers" on the net, so HUH? lol Sounds more like mosquitoes like you said. But a really bad infestation problem if so. Hope you don't live "West of Niles" so you don't get a fever. (jk)
Maybe they are chiggers? Chiggers live in the lawn and they bite and itch like mosquitoes, but I don't know if they actually fly.
Could be many things including biting flies, lice, mite, scabies...
Get a sticky trap to capture a sample... then take it to an exterminator.
Ignoring the mosquitoes possibility:
I would guess that if they were really aggressive they could be pygmy wasps. These black wasps would be able to sit inside a penny's diameter. We have these down in Texas.

Other possibles: horse flies or another type of wasp.
Oh! One more thought: flying ants. I'm sure they would not be pleased if your mom mowed over their home. I have not seen any attack a human before though.
