How many square meters can brick layer do per shift?
Question:Hello...
Curious to find out what a reasonable square meterage built would be for a brickie laying breeze block in a single 8 hour shift with a labourer at hand to assist as the brickie requires?
I ask because I have been given a price of £19.50 (ex.vat) per square meter for a brickie, and £100 (ex.vat) per day for his labourer. Thus for me to roughly work out the cost of the labourer I need to know what meterage he might reasonably be expected to achieve in a shift!
Thanks for any answers/comments.

Tough question!
As an ex brickie you have me confused because I don't know what is being built. We can throw up bricks in a straight line like lightening if the corners are built already.
However you have been quoted by the metre so the calculation is as follows:
1sq m = 60 standard bricks
1sq m = 10 blocks (approx)
10 sq m per day is possible so you will pay 195 + 100
Most brickies will work for a flat rate of £170 a day so the quote is reasonable enough but I would pay the flat rate if I were you.
The guy might be very quick which could result in you being out of pocket!
