What gets rid of the residue at the bottom of the kettle?
Question:
Answers:
Soak it with vinegar but remember to wash it out probably after.
the residue is limescale. u want descaler. available in most supermarkets and hardware stores.
De-scaling products which contain mild acid. Some people suggest vinegar but it isnt strong enough unless you leave it for 24 hours. I cannot live without my kettle for this amount of time.
are you talking about limescale ( white crusty stuff), if so, the best thing to use is Oust Limescale remover.
A new kettle or any descaling product, the best one I found was at boots and mothercare as reheating bottles casued the bottle reheater to fuss up
fill the kettle at 1/2 of the water content, boil it and add after is boiled and the button is off a good glass of vinegar and a fist of salt. let it soak overnight and then wash it thoroughly. boil and throw away the water a couple of times to get rid of the smell and use the kettle again for your tea
fill it 1/3rd full with vinegar , then let it boil as normal , then leave overnight, rinse well and itll be like new again
put a marble in the kettle. this always works, as the limescale won ,t solidify .there are also wire mesh balls that collect the lime .
Put marbles in it, add water and bring to a boil. The marbles will jump aroun breaking loose the sediments in the kettle.
Oust descaler
Try rinsing it out occasionally!!
I too have used vinegar as a cure for limescale in the bottom of the kettle. However as I recently had to buy a new kettle (due to neglect of de-scaling duties) I intend to follow the manufacturers instructions.
1) to fill the kettle if possible through the limescale filter in the spout; to dislodge any limescale collected in it;
2)and to treat it regularly with OUST descaler; or
3)use citric acid crystals (available from pharmacist at low cost for large quantity) as follows:
Fill kettle to 3/4 & boil - unplug and place kettle into empty sink.
Add 50gm Citric acid crystals GRADUALLY, and leave to stand.
As soon as fizzing stops empty kettle and rinse out thoroughly with cold water.
Wipe the outside of kettle thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove all traces of acid (in case it damages finish).
Return kettle to normal use and reward yourself with a nice cup of tea.
try citric acid from your pharmacy works wonders
