Do I have Fruit Flies? How do I get rid of them?

Question:Yesterday (July 13th, Friday we've had some unexpected visitors awaiting in the kitchen. Surprisingly, they were mini flies.. I've looked online to identify them and I am 70% sure they are fruit flies, but don't really know yet. Here are the descriptions i've came up with :
Very small, smaller than a pebble.
Red Eyes.
The behind of the flies are Yellow stripes with a greyish looking color.

I've tried putting a cup out with White Vinegar.. they taste it but don't drown in it. I've also tried a spray (MaxDefense from Ortho) but they still seem to be around.. Any suggestions?

Answers:
take an empty water bottle and cut the top off, from the point where it starts to straighten out. place the cut-off top with the open mouth down in the center of the rest of the bottle. put a piece of rotten fruit, like a banana, inside of the bottom, and leave it in the kitchen where most of the fruit flies are.

If they aren't fruit flies, I don't know what to tell you. Hope this helps!

If they are fruit flies, get rid of any rotting food.
Fruit flies are a pain. The come out of nowhere when you leave the tiniest bit of fruit out, even if there's a tiny piece left on the counter. Clean your kitchen well, put away any and all fruit, and they will go away. Where they go, I don't know, but they'll be back sometime..Good luck!
try apple cider vinegar mixed with a little dishing washing liquid; leave container sitting overnight... make sure that you do not have any fruits or vegetables , peelings, etc. setting out to attract them also. the vinegar and soap mixture should take care of your problem.
You have two possibilities. Either they are fruit flies or they are fungus gnats. They look about the same. Fruits flies are attracted to sweet things, particularly fruit. Fungus gnats are attracted to plants and wetness. Both are attracted to the colour yellow. You can buy, at your home improvement place or Walmart, things that are yellow sticky strips you attach to little sticks. The colour attracts the bugs and the sticky catches them. You insert these sticks into plant pots, or other handy receptacles. They are not expensive and work very well. It's the same principle as fly-paper. So if you can't find the sticky papers, use fly paper. I don't know what they're called where you lived, but here they're called Sticky Stix. Alternately, you can set out a yellow bowl with water and watch them drown. Be scrupulous about removing garbage frequently, even daily. Make sure you don't have damp places, like water puddling around the tub or sink taps. It takes a little time, but if your persistent you can get rid of them. Good luck.
If you have houseplants, this could be the reason, It could be gnats. They look very much like fruit flies. Best way to rid them dry your plant s out for a week, they live off the fresh soil and dead roots of plant´s . So dry the plant´s out , and they will leave
Fruit flies generally come with bananas, in the stems, get them early eat them quick or keep them in the refrig. Also they do not eat much after the bananas are gone they will also go.
