I just moved into a new house and have noticed a huge cockroach problem. Is this the landlords responsibility?
Question:I have bombed the house twice and find dead roaches. My main concern is when I go outside at night I can see them running in all different directions. A lot of them and they are 1-2 inches big! What I need is a pest company to do a monthly spray or something. Do I have to pay to not live with these nasty creatures when they were there before me?
Answers:
Look at your rental agreement. It should spell out exactly what you are responsible for. Also check you local and state laws
I think most states require landlords to take care of such problems. Check the tenant rights in your state.
Ya I agree with Nancy O
Only if it is specified to be so in the lease. MOST of the time it is not.
Pest control is the LL responsibility. If you rent a residence it should be weather proof and pest free. I am sure the LL knew of the "DEFECT" but make sure you send him/her a letter indicating what you expect done.
absolutely ! it is the ll's resposibility and you should have called right away instead of trying to fix the prob yourself. he should pay for a professional to come because bombs don't work if there is a big infestation and they are in the walls. It will take more than one visit and the ll should sign a contract with them for regular maintenance even after you don't see any more. They will guarantee their work and you can call them every time you see more after the initial visits. Good Luck, they are so hard to get rid of. I finally moved after 2 years of fighting them and they ruined all of my kitchen appliances, microwave, blender, toaster. and I didn't want to take them with me to the new place.
In most states these are considered a health hazard. Check with your local Department of Health for their suggestions. They may also very well want to pay your landlord a non-expected visit. Good luck I hate them too!
