HELP! My bamboo trees are dying in the Florida drought. Water restrictions strictly enforced.?

Question:Trees are large (expensive) field grown specimens. Transplanted in my yard in January. They shed all of their leaves, but I can usually encourage new growth with heavy watering. Now they seem to really be dying, and I can only water once per week! Soil is very sandy. Someone suggested a polymer product to mix with the soil around the roots which retains many times its weight in moisture, but I can't remember what it is called.

Answers:
Barrel your used bath & dish water. That's what we do to save on our water bill, but in your case you can water your bamboo without using fresh water.

The food that is washed off of your dishes provide your plants with nutrients, and the soap, shampoo, & contiion help to keep the soil broken up & not retain the roots. Even after the drought I recommend you keep doing this to save on water & fertilizers. I hope this helps. Take care & God bless.

I don't know the name of the polymer product, but HGTV or the DIYnetwork just did a special where they suggested putting sponges in potted plants to help retain water for people who leave on vacation for a week or so. I wonder if that would work on a larger scale? Just a thought.
i used to put coconut skin.. it retains water & as well as very cheap / free (if u can found one)
