Garden Ponds- We still have loads of tadpoles in our garden which are not changing into frogs, why ?Will they?
Question:
Answers:
they will, it'll be next year you start to notice "mirco frogs". Your tadpolls should just be starting to develop legs and arm but still have their tales. Nothing wrong with your pond
If they are still alive they most certainly will. You say they are in your garden so I assume that they are now out of the water. They still have their tails when they emerge and these slowly disappear and they take on the shape of a frog as we know it but for a while they do still look a lot like tadpoles.
things will be ok next year, thats if the fish don't eat em first.
Maybe there was more than one brood laid, and they weren't all laid at the same time, so they won't all mature at the same time either. I think they will be fine.
Maybe they are going to be toads. they look almost alike when young.
How quickly frogs (or toads) develop from tadpoles into their adult forms is dependent on both what type of species they are, and how much food is available. Often, when food is plentiful, they are able to delay changing into frogs to take advantage of the food source. When food is scarce, it can make them change faster since, as frogs, they are more mobile and able to take advantage of more types of foods from a greater variety of sources. On average, the complete change takes around 3-4 months, so if your eggs were just laid this season, you may not see frogs until late summer.
Hope this helps!
