if you dont mind the mess at first use self rising flour all over the flowers. it kills the critters and the next watering or rain will wash the self rising flour off them
small bowls of beer really work. They are attracted to it and drown there
Anything with a high sodium content will lead those pesky snails astray!
Salt poured directly on them kills them. The best way is to dig a hole in the ground and put a coffee can or a large tin full of beer. The slugs will fall in. Or just go buy slug pellets. If it rains you will have to do the salt and pellets again.
Be kind to the slugs and snails - either use a beaker 1/2 filled with beer buried up to the rim in the soil near your flowers (this requires regular cleaning out - not nice - but just think of the good time the slugs and snails had!), or place copper tape (from garden stores), snipped into zig-zag raised points, in a ring around your plants - they don't like copper and, as an added safeguard, can't negotiate the points. Or, failing that, collect up all the slugs and snails and go and re-home them in the wilderness somewhere?!
Do you live in an area that has wild mullin growing? If so, pick it and lay it in your beds.
