Mothers trailer was broken into, need help with ideas...on how to make a trailer hard to break into...?
Question:Hi, my mother who lives alone with my little sisters trailer was broken into and I'm trying to think of what I can do to make it pretty impossible to break into. We had dead-bolt locks on the door, but I guess they used a crowbar or something and stuck it in between the door and the metal that covers the lock and bent the metal so far that the locks wouldnt catch.
Anyways the door is pretty useless now and the piece of metal, I don't know what I can really do that will keep people out because trailer doors are so easy to break into. Are there any out there that are hard to break into? Maybe I can just find a way to seal the back door off and bar up the windows? I dont know what I could seal it with, cuz im not a handyman...Anyone have any ideas how to make a trailer hard to break into...
Answers:
In a trailer, security doors tend not to be particularly effective given the building materials of the trailer itself. You could consider:
1. a loud alarm system with external speakers, which should scare the culprits away.
2. stickers announcing you have an alarm system on windows typically make thieves think twice.
3. never leave boxes from purchases in your garbage, as this announces you have brand new stuff to steal.
4. be advised that thieves typically "revisit" properties they have previously burgled, usually 2 - 6 months later, since they presume you've replaced the stolen items from insurance settlements in that time.
Hope this is helpful.
Better yet look into security system, even though it's a trailer i would still look into it, i doubt they won't let you make that happen. Try also going to Lowe's or Home Depot and explain your situation they are knowledgeable better then asking me haha cuz i have no clue.
Also put this item under MATIENENCE AND REPAIR, under home not home and gardens most likely you'll get all the do it yourself home people looking rather then how do i get slugs out of my garden people.
