We've just discovered a couple snakes in our apartment. Does anyone know a good way to trap them?

Question:I believe that they're garter or garden snakes...basically harmless, but very un-nerving for my wife. I need to draw them out from hiding so I can trap (hopefully without killing them) and remove them from our apartment. Animal control and the apartment maintenance were of no help.

Answers:
Dear snake charmer,
First, determine for sure if they are truly harmless...Do they have a wide triangular jaw/ or are they narrow headed? If they are wide headed they may be harmful. Otherwise not. They are there because there are mice or other food sources and warmth. As long as these conditions are favorable they will come like addicts to drugs. But if you take a box or container that has a flap or other one way entry container and put a mouse in it they may go for the mouse and get trapped. This or a noose and distant relocation to another food source area is all you have. A noose is easy to make with a hollow pole or broom stick with a looped cord through it. Drape the loop around the snake and pull the cord to tighten it to remove it humanely. relocate it to a far away place where it is warm and has food and it will be happy. Beware others will come if conditions remain favorable. Best of luck to you.

I would just move the heck out. Till the maintenance man found then and fixed it so they could not get back in. Have animal control look for eggs so you want get a surprise later on with babies all over the place.
