How often should you replace fire extinguishers if you haven't used them?
Question:We have fire extinguishers that are almost 10 years old. We've never had to use any of them. Should I replace them?
I'm considering using the current ones to teach my 9 and 11 year old kids how to effectively use them and then replace with new ones.
Answers:
If they haven't been used, they should still be good. BUT, have the local fire department check them out to be sure. They can tell you for sure what to do with them.
You don't need to replace, just recharge. Check the Yellow Pages.
You can do what you want & then have them recharged.
But check to see what new ones cost first.
In the city where I live in rental buildings fire extinguishers must be checked yearly by a professional. & after six or so years must be refilled, & there is a limit or 12 or so years when they must be replaced.
