How can I prevent my apartment from break-ins while I am gone on a work-trip?


Question:My apartment is on terrace level, with windows and patio facing a wooded area. I will be traveling on weekdays and be back on weekends for about two months. I don't have a dog.

Stop your mail or have someone pick it up
Have a neighbor keep any papers from stacking up in front of your door
If your parking space is numbered, ask a neighbor to park in your space

Contact your super and tell him that you will be in and out of town for the next two months. Have him check the place or have a buddy stay there. Have a security camera and or system installed. At the very least get a sticker that says patroled area.
Install a security system. Close the blinds. Leave a couple lights on, or put a couple lights on a timer. Have your landlord or landlady check on it regularly.
