What do you think of when you think of italian leather furniture?

Question:as opposed to other types? American, Chinese, Spanish etc.

I want to know if there is a gut reaction to like italian leather furniture over others.

Answers:
Typically most things the Italians make or produce are of quality nature. Their shoes are of the finest made in the world, their cars (not the Fiat ) are top drawer, their commercial equipment ( coffee makers etc.) first class, and their leather goods be it furniture or whatever are looked upon as quality products. No I am not Italian.

Covered in plastic? Well, thats what all the old people in my itallian family seem to do.
The Godfather.

Seriously, Italian leather is known for it's quality and craftsmanship for hundreds of years. Because of that, it is probably more expensive than other types.
Italian leather furniture (in general) is beautiful and the best of quality. My husband and I shopped around for a while and decided on 2 pieces. You should (in my opinion) have it mixed with some clothe types of pieces as well. Otherwise, my impression of it is tacky leather . Leather not what it used to be and many have the impression of the "cold stick to my legs" idea. Mine gets softer as it gets older and is not cold or sticky. These are the only pieces that will get better with age and will keep until you are sick of them . This is only is you buy QUALITY leather - otherwise, its garbage. Good luck
I never think of Italian Leather Furniture. You should go see a doctor if you are obsessing about this. I don't think of American, Chinese Or Spanish Furniture either. Make an appointment tomorrow.
Probably a difference in color and texture. I would suspect that it would be soft and sensual feeling as compared to leather furniture that is sturdy and rugged looking.

Italian leather does not mean that it is made from Italian cows but that it is tanned in Italy. It is a misconception that Italian leather is the best, they make some of the best and some of the worst.

When the tanning industries closed throughout the rest of the world due to the environmental problems, Italy decided to take it on. Hides are shipped to Italy from all over the world and then tanned there.

Today most of the companies from Italy are opening tanneries in China so most leather even if it called Italian is produced in China.

The best hides in the world are produced in places like Sweden and Switzerland where the weather is more temperate. The quality of the leather should be judged by where the cows were produced but the problem is now that by tanning in China there are less controls so the finishing processes are not as good.

American leather will also have been tanned in China.

Go for a full grain leather (rather than a top grain) and spend as much as you can afford.
