To cover a pool or not to cover?

Question:I have one of those Easy Set 15'x48" pools. Should I cover it or no? It's really cloudy right now. Is this because the alkalanity is high?

Answers:
What color is the cloudy water? What chemicals have you used in the pool lately?

Covering the pool will help to keep debris out but it hinders the way chlorine works. To work chlorine oxidizes organic compounds into chloramines. These chloramines gas out of the water naturally, but if you block this with a cover you trap this under it and stall the sanitation of the water. When you remove the cover in the morning you will get a chlorine stink, and this is the trapped chloramines trying to get loose. Since they were trapped they were reabsorbed back into the water and it takes longer to clear them out when this happens.

You may need to just add some chlorine in it and if you don't want to clean your pool as much cover it. It may save time in the long run.
I would cover your pool, it will help with cleaning all the gunk out later. Good Luck
Covering any pool keeps dirt out. It also warms the water. A cover will save on chlorine since most is lost by evaporation. This savings alone will pay for the cover over time.
Cover it up.. you will save water, and chlorine. Less cleaning as well. You still need to run the pump to circulate the water
Throw in a 5 gallon jug of shock and some clarifyer.

If it gets cool to cold at night, cover it. Beside keeping debris out, it keeps the cold air off of the top of the water, thus keeping the heat in. If your not there during the day, leave the cover on. The dark color will absorb the heat and transfer it to the water.

Does it work...YES. I heated my water to 87 degrees for a pool party. After using the cover for a few cool nights and days, the temperature only dropped to 85. The all-blue 8 mil cover is common and works OK. Invest in the 12 mil cover (blue top with the silver bubbled side) be best results.
