What's the best way to keep insects out of an attic area?

Question:I want to use my attic area for storage and I just found a huge hornet's nest (no longer active). How do I prevent insects from getting in there in the future.
Moth balls?
Set off those insecticide smoke bombs every year?

Answers:
For insects like wasps and bees, you need to cover all openings with fine mesh screens. If you are keeping items up there. you could drywall the area of the rafters above your storage area, to keep it clean and bug free.
