You have a choice of italian leather furniture or leather furniture from America, which do you accept?
Question:
Answers:
Italian leather does not mean that it is made from Italian cows but that it is tanned in Italy. It is a misconception that Italian leather is the best, they make some of the best and some of the worst.
When the tanning industries closed throughout the rest of the world due to the environmental problems, Italy decided to take it on. Hides are shipped to Italy from all over the world and then tanned there.
Today most of the companies from Italy are opening tanneries in China so most leather even if it called Italian is produced in China.
The best hides in the world are produced in places like Sweden and Switzerland where the weather is more temperate. The quality of the leather should be judged by where the cows were produced but the problem is now that by tanning in China there are less controls so the finishing processes are not as good.
American leather will also have been tanned in China.
Go for a full grain leather (rather than a top grain) and spend as much as you can afford.
Italian

I have Italian leather furniture .
I would never own anything else.
My furniture is 5 years old.
We had a house fire in November and had 10,000 gallons of water pumped into our home, Every thing was destroyed from water damage except my furniture it looks better than ever.
That is the thing about Italian leather....it looks better with age.
Read the labels. Good possibility both are made in China or the leather came from there. Often "italian leather" is referring to a style of tanning. .
