Is there a way around the law preventing me living in a static caravan all year?
Question:Most residential sites are for the retired/semi-retired. My partner & I want to buy a nice mobile home but are prevented by new rules which mean we can't live permanently on a holiday park. I know you could until recently just provide an off-site address and then live in your caravan. Does anyone know why this is now being made so difficult and if there's a way around it? Reisdential homes are so expensive and we can only afford a holiday home anyway so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You could stay at the park for the maximum time then find another park and so on.
Also, you could buy a plot of land. and run the basics to it. Electrical, sewer, etc. And park your RV on it.
Well you could always take some holidays and go and stay with friends for the month or so that this applies to. There must be around this.
Have you thought of a canal boat? There are Marinas where you can moor and live on your boat as permanent residents.
Some boat owners are "continuous cruisers" which means they stay on one mooring for 2 weeks, move their boat 2 miles, and moor up again for another 2 weeks.
You would need a Waterways Licence, the cost of which which is based on the length of your boat.
The ruling about holiday caravan sites used to be that you could only stay for 11 months of the year, so residents needed to go on holiday or stay with family/friends for the other 4 weeks or so. Has this changed or is it still possible to do this? I knew an elderly lady who did this - she shared herself among her children for the weeks she needed to be off site to comply with the regulations.
Citizens Advice Bureau may be able to advise you.
i lived in a static caravan for 3years (buncrew, inverness) it had a section where it was only full time ocupants lived . maybe by contacting them or someone near yourself would be able to help . buncrew caravan site , near inverness, scotland
The rules are for maintenance ofseptic tanks etc. I think the only way around it is to put your caravan on private land. I know lots of farms and such like who rent out statics all year round. So maybe you a looking in the wrong places. Try private land owners, any sites have to comply with health and safety which means you cant stay during maintennance. I dont think this is the same for private land. Im not sure but give it a go.
Because the licences issued by councils for holiday parks are for non residential use and to comply with this the site owners now only sell to you if you have a permanent address. The way round this is to buy your home while you have your permanent home thereby satisfying the law.Once you have your mobile home you can just choose to go on holiday for the odd month or so that you have to be absent from site. This is usually december time so go somewhere nice and warm for those horrible cold british weeks.
