Why do they paint palm trees white at the bottom?

Question:

Answers:
Usually it's reflective paint- since palm trees are thin and their leaves are usually high- the paint is to keep cars or people from driving/walking into them.

Never noticed palm tress white but citrus tress are painted white to protect from sun
i think it has something to do with deterring a certain type of insect that attacks palm trees.
So the drunks can see them and hopefully not run into them.
There are many possible reasons:

* Because it looks pretty.
* To make them more visible to night drivers.
* To fool rats into thinking their not palm trees.
* To seal the base where it was shaved; protecting from insects.
* Because painting them green or purple would be silly.
