Itty bitty beige seeds -- what creature eats them?

Question:The little beige seeds in bags of bird seed, around the size of a head of a pin -- what creature eats those? Are they just filler in bags of bird seed? Also, should I buy the more expensive bags of seed that have shelled sunflower seeds so that there is less of a mess? Is it worth it? If I buy bags of seed that are JUST sunflower seeds, will that limit what types of birds visit my feeder? FYI: I live in west-central Illinois. Thanks!

Answers:
They are called millet. The finches eat them. Getting seed that has very little of this is better, as the finches only eat so much.

If you want a variety of birds, don't go strictly sunflower seeds, however, most birds do eat them.

It is called millet. Sunflower seeds draw the squirrels in like crazy...but if you get Safflower seeds, they are white, the squirrels won't eat them.

The sunflower seed hulls aren't so bad.just turn them under in the soil.

Yes if you only get the sunflower seeds it does limit your birds.

I like to buy the black Niger seeds for the finches, the sunflower seeds for the bigger birds like the blue jay, and the red headed woodpeckers, and other birds will eat the sunflower seed.
