Protect my sweet corn!?
Question:How should I protect my sweet corn this year? Last year the cobs were all missing from my stalks with some of the cobs picked out on the ground (looked like animals, not people). We live in a residential area, so definitely not deer and we had a 4 foot fence around it. I know we have racoons, squirrels, and groundhogs, and possible a opossum or two. So, any ideas that don't involve guns or poisins (we have a cat)?
Answers:
The coons are stripping your corn!
I am a regular gardner (in the country) & have had to deal
with this before. You need to go & get yourself a large
rodent trap (live cage type) Probally at a speaciality or a pet
shop(I forget where I got mine). Bait lt with jelly donuts or
something similar. You can then carry the BEAST to animal
control (or whatever you want) & let them take care of it.
These cages have handles on top of them so you don't have
to come in contect with them.
REMEMBER: An Animal Does'nt Have To Show Signs Of
It Being RABID To Have Rabies. So Don't Touch It.
This should solve your critter cares. I hope you have a good stand of corn.
Good Luck To You...
Maybe try a motion sensing sprinkler..then if anything comes around the garden or in it the sprinkler will go off and that will usually scare most animals away including any cats trying to use it as a litter box.
