Question:The leaves turn brown and dead at the tips and it spreads up. the plants look like they are dying! I'm just a guy without a green thumb so any advice to save them would be appreciated. I give it a good dose of water twice a week but I guess thats not enough.. Thanx..

Sounds to me like you need to water them more than 2 time a week. A suggestion, go to Walmart and get new pots that have a false bottom where you can pour water into. I can't remember the name but they are self watering. Your plants can use what water they need when they need it. Now all you need to do is keep water in it. You can go 2 to 3 days without watering. Also while you are changing pots change soil. Miracle Grow also makes soil that will hold moisture. Maybe this will help your ailing plants, hope so!! Good luck with them!

The probable cause is too much water. If they are tropical plants, give a large potted one only on cup of water per week. there is only two reasons the leaves look dead is too much water or too little light. Good luck.
