Roaches, Mice, and more roaches What Should I DO?
Question:I have finally settled into my apartment, I have been here for only 5 months, and roaches are popping out in my kitchen and bathroom; small ones, big ones, and fat ones, mice run around at night leaving their droppings everywhere, and the landlord never told me that there were mice and roaches, I am terrified of the roaches and not so much of the rats, I am so scared of the roaches that I can not step on them, I run. I keep the place clean, and they only seem to come out more. I need to get out of here, why should i pay rent for an infestation, not to mention my 2 year old lives with me. Any suggestions on how to get rid of them, or how to make money so I can move. Thanks.

My advice would be to do what BOTH Leftyizm and Doofus have told you. If your landlord refuses to acknowledge the problem and and do something about it, then yes, you definitely need legal counsel. That may take time, tho', so you need to use the sprays and baits right now and be persistent about it...not an easy job, but it's the only way. Be careful to read all the directions, especially since you have a child and you want to protect him from the chemicals. By the way, if you live in an apartment building...with other tenants above, below or next to you.they most likely are experiencing the same problems (and unfortunately one of them may be the actual cause of the problem). If so, it really is best that all of the apartments are treated at the same time, so that the "critters" don't just move from one place to another. And if there are other tenants, maybe you can all talk to each other and approach your landlord as a group. Sorry you're having to go thru' this situation and wish you much luck. Even if we can't actually help, know that we care.
I used raid a boric acid.i hate ROACHES! Just thinking of them freaks me out with their little legs...ewwww.
Have your place sprayed but if they are sooo bad i would just move.
There are several good roach baits out there, one being maxforce, if you have a local Lessco, or pest control supply store you can pick this up and use as directed, also you can use the aresol bombs, for quick kill then bait as needed
I have always found products made by "Bengal" to be excellent.
For a rental I owned that was infested, I first used the "Flush Spray" to pre-treat the area, then a few foggers to kill them. The flush will seep deeper into the walls than regular spray. You spray it behind appliances, along moldings and base boards, under cabinets,etc... it doesn't kill them, but they can't stand it. It drives them out into the open where the fogger can get them much more effectively.
For mice, I prefer a few glueboards with a spoon of peanut butter in the middle. They can't resist the smell of the peanut butter and I've caught as many as 7 on one board in one night. For bigger mice/rats, make sure you staple the board down. I've came back to find the whole board gone. I guess somewhere there was a rat walking around with a glueboard stuck on the top of his head!
After you've gotten rid of them, you'll need to repeat in about 14 days to get rid of any that might have hatched since the treatment, before they get old enough to breed.
They might be coming from a neighbor, I would buy a bunch of Roach Motels and stick them everywhere to keep them under control in the future.
Hire an attorney or find one at a Legal Aid Society. Have the Atty sue the landlord to make you whole again. That includes, but is not limited to your moving expenses (in & out), property damage caused by the mice, rats, roaches etc, any higher rent you will have to pay to get a decent place to live, and Atty fees.
Ask the Atty about his fees, and who pays them.
This university agriculture department web site offers good advice: http://www.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfact... . For the rodents, you might contact an exterminator. Call your local health department; maybe there's a way to get your landlord to pay for some of this pest control. Talk to/write a letter to the landlord and If the landlord refuses to fix this, and you're willing to pay first and take your chances, there's always small claims court - where you generally don't need an attorney.
Of course, if you just fix your apartment, they will be back; the whole building needs treatment.
I have a couple of suggestions for each pest problem; the first one is the less costly of the two.
Willert Home Products packages boric acid as Enoz Roach Away. I found my one-pound plastic squeeze bottle at Wal-Mart. Boric acid, in the past, was used as an eye wash. However, Enoz's label states that the product is a hazard to humans and domestic animals. To control cockroaches, apply liberally, scattering under and behind refrigerator, stove, sink, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer; into opernings around drains, water pipes and electrical conduits; and in cracks and crevices along baseboards and corners of cabinets, cupboards, and closets. Remove all lower drawers in kitchen and bahroom cabinets, bedroom dressers and chests of drawers, then scatter liberally in drawer wells. Reapply as necessary. Any powder visible after application must be brushed into cracks and crevices or removed. Apply only in areas inaccessible to children and pets. Avoid contamination of feed and foodstuffs. The powder is ineffective when it becomes wet. To be truly successful with eliminating roaches, everyone in your building must use boric acid in this manner. The roaches walk through it, clean their feet with their mouths, ingesting the boric acid, which kills them. If a roach that was killed by boric acid is eaten by another roach, the second roach also will die. Alternatively, purchase a gallon of pest control spray made for in-home use and apply as the label directs. Some products work for up to nine months, but less effectively as time progresses. The smell is negligible and will disappear in a couple of days. At first, you will find many dead roaches each morning, then upside down but still kicking roaches, then roaches that can barely crawl but are still moving, which means it's time to spray again. Most of these products also work on silverfish and spiders to a limited extent.
As for mice, I buy Victor traps that have a trip lever that can be loaded with half a peanut (I like to use roasted, unsalted peanuts from a jar). Load the traps by wedging the half peanut into the end of the trip lever, set them as illustrated on the package, and place them near walls where the mice travel. I usually put mine in the back of the kitchen sink cabinet where children's hands cannot reach them. The spring-loaded traps will snap down on the mice when they tug on the peanut. Hold a trap with a dead mouse in it over an open plastic bag and open the spring enough to let the critter drop into the bag. Dead mice will stink at room temperature in just a few days, so I put the closed bag in the freezer until trash pickup day; then the bagged, frozen mice go in the trash bag. Alternatively, set out poison baits; they contain a dehydrating agent that usually eliminates odors from dead mice in the walls. Again, get your neighbors to employ the same practices to rid the building of mice. Eventually, you will overcome these problem pests and be stronger and wiser for the experience.
About making money: Go to a bank or credit union and ask for some penny rolling sleeves. Ask neighbors, friends, strangers for their pennies. Tell them you have a goal in mind and their pennies will help you reach it. Put fifty pennies in each sleeve and take it to the bank or credit union to trade for larger denominations of coins or folding money. Keep asking, collecting, rolling, and cashing in. Deposit the money in a credit union savings account where it will earn dividends. Save some portion of other funds you receive, even if only a dollar a week. Study your neighborhood to find a need and fill it. Provide a service at a fair price. Maybe everyone needs someone to spread their boric acid and handle their successful mouse traps!
Oh My God!...what kind of place are you living at?..
I suggest you better go make some money and move out of the place.
here's my suggestions..
Well there are several ways people make money without paying anything upfront:
If you own a blog or website...
1.) You can join Adsense and put up google advertisement..they used to pay well but now..for every click you might only get a couple of cents...and unless your website has lots of traffic..i feel it's not worth the space..what kind of information do you need about adsense..my suggestion is it's not worth pursuing...
2.) You can join affiliate programs and put up advertisements or recommendations that pays you 10 times more than adsense.
If you want to make money online, you can do some freelancing work. I am not sure about your experience or what kind of job skills you possess.
However, here are some options:
if you're savvy with internet technologies, you can find lots of jobs to work from home at www.elance.com, www.scriptlance.com www.rentacoder.com
There is also another way called affiliate marketing where you can make a living online without your own products which I have been doing for the last couple of years.
Affiliate marketing is kind of like a virtual salesman. Where you sell other people's products and they pay you for it. The only difference is, you do not have to do it physically.
With the power of internet. You can join Citibank as an affiliate and promote their credit card facilities through a link and they will pay you handsomely for it.
One of the best places to find all kinds or products you can find to promote is CJ.com (commission junction)... CJ.com has lots of products you can choose from.from big names like Citibank and such...
You join them and they give you a unique link which is unique only to you...All you have to do is to promote the link for people to click and visit. If your visitors buys another product through your link..you are instantly accredited some commission.
CJ.com is FREE to join..of course it's free, you're helping them to make money...LOL..
There are also other ways to make money like
offer people good offers like cash rebate on whatever they job with think eBay, Gap, Old Navy, Circuit City, Target and more..And, whenever anybody we refer shops, we get paid too--FOREVER.
