I want a shower fitted but what type?
Question:Hi, i am having a new condenser combi boiler fitted next week and while i have builders in, i was going to pay them to fit my shower at the same time, but what type of shower would i need? The boiler will be in the kitchen, the bathroom upstairs, do i need extra pumps etc? i know nothing about plumbing and electrics etc. I am on a budget, i dont want anything fancy just a plain shower what would do the job. And how much would you say is reasonable price to have a shower fitted?

Hi there, we have recently had a combi boiler and shower fitted and we are over the moon with it. It is Mira Combiforce 415 specifically for Combi boilers. I believe most new combi boilers today have internal pumps.
Your choice will normally be determined with the amount of hot water your boiler can ourput per minute (typically about 15litres per minute). We chose one of the new type boilers which has a small tank intergrated with it so there is no loss of pressure if someone else in the house turns on a hot tap at the same time. I did a lot of research on the boilers because I got some very conflicting advice. In the end I feel we made the right decision for us we are very chuffed with the boiler but the shower is just brilliant. Failing that we had a new electric shower put upstairs which is the most powerful on the market. It is the Mira Sport Max but needs it's own power supply as it's 10kw. Not a power shower by any means but very acceptable for electric showers. Again the performance is dominated by the water pressure coming into the house (it cannot be fed from a cold water tank!)
We bought ours from www.heatandplumb.com they were the cheapest I could find and the most helpful. Just call and ask for the technical department and they will help you.
Hope that helps.
No need for extra pumps/electrics. They might change the pipes if the old ones (they'd have to be very, very old, so probably won't apply to you) are too wide for the high pressure boiler (they probably wouldn't though, you'd just notice that the water isn't quite hot enough, then they'll notice the pipes need to be upgraded).
£500 for a full shower..you getting the whole cubicle shebang?
I would go for an electric shower that is independant of the boiler. It is connected to the cold water supply under the bath. They are rated in kw (kilo watts). Mine is 7.5 which I find adequate but you may prefer to go for a larger one of say 8.5 or even 9.5.
All this means that if you want a really hot invigorating shower, you will need a bigger element.
For an over bath job, shower unit, plumbed in, electrics done you are looking around £250/£300.
You can save money by buying a non brand such as Wickes, Their showers are Triton and you can save up to 30% on Triton prices.
hi like geri b i have a mira 88 connected to my worcester 28si11 combi boiler, neither are expensive but they are both so reliable and easy to use, get a mira connected to your condensing boiler it is money well spent.
