I am so upset about new refrigerator not fitting in door...?
Question:...we just got a new refrigerator and it's sitting in our garage. I don't think it will fit in through our 32" standard door. The measurements for the refrigerator are fine for the kitchen, but we forgot about the main door. :(
We can't return it without a huge restocking fee.
I've learned my lesson about buying appliances online. We even have to move this hulk from garage to kitchen, which is next to impossible. This was the worst online shopping experience, and the thing is--it was my stupid fault because I wanted to save some money.

When I read your question I was really sad for you so I’ve done some investigating. I had to search around a bit for the external dimensions - most sites concentrate on the internal storage capacity. You’ve probably got the dimensions in a booklet that came with the appliance. According to this website http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadis... these are some of the dimensions pertinent to you.
Cabinet Height w/ Hinge Cover: 69 7/8"
Cabinet Height w/o Hinge: 68 1/2"
Cabinet Depth w/ door handle: 34"
Cabinet Depth w/o door handle: 31 3/4" <---- This should help you.
Cabinet Depth w/o door: 29" <---- This should help you.
Cabinet Width: 35 5/8"
First check there isn’t an alternative route to its final position.
There should be no problem with the height. It seems from the above that you will be able to get it through a 32” doorway with ¼” to spare if you remove the cabinet door handle - probably a tight squeeze. Gain extra room by removing the cabinet doors, top and bottom hinges, freezer drawer and air grill (at the bottom). Also take off the 32” door and its hinges from the doorway. It’s amazing what all the extra small spaces add up to.
Don’t forget to remove any shelves, etc to reduce the weight and stop stuff falling out. You’ll have to turn the appliance so the side of it goes through the doorway first.
Pity I can’t come and help you. Do let us know if you manage to do this. Otherwise you’re reduced to keeping it in your garage, returning it, or selling it.
can you take the doors off the fridge that usually makes it easier to get in and out...
Is it possible you have big windows and could take a pane of glass out ?These days UPC its quick to pop them out and put them back .
Take the frame and doors off
Sorry that happened but I will make sure I get door measurements before I buy appliances. What about sliding glass doors or something in the back of the house that might be able to remove? Then again perhaps you can sell it on ebay or craigslist and get most of your money out of it and get a better fitting refrigerator.
well open the doors to the frig and swing one door in first and then pick up frig and wiggle it through and then the other door last, so open up the doors and be real careful and work it through there, doors first, then body ,then other door.
put old towel or cardboard on floor first.
DID YOU THINK ABOUT REMOVING THE DOOR OF THE FRIDGE? BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE-IT HAPPENED TO A FRIEND OF MINE-I THOUGHT WE WERE SCREWED TOO-BUT IT WORKED! ITS WORTH A SHOT..GOOD LUCK!
We have that same stinking little doorway, old house.
We have to take the door off of the hinges and then sometimes take all the hardware off the door frame.
I think once we even had to take some of the trim off on the inside of the door frame where the door hits when it is closed.
Then we moved a freezer once and had to take off the lid so you may have to take off the doors.
We got our last refrigerator at Sears and the guys deliver it and take it through the door, they know what to take apart and then put everything back together at the end.
