Flea Help Please! How do I get rid of Fleas?
Question:In the past weeks I have been bitten by fleas! I can't find those critters anywhere! How can I find them and how do I get rid of them? (I do not own a pet)
Answers:
Fleas like shaded areas.. so if you have a yard, keep that in mind
Next.. how do you know these are fleas & not some other insect.. do you have positive ID?
for the Yard:
get Original Plain Dawn LIquid Dish Soap (not a similar product by a differerent brand & not dawn with anythign else in it... PLAIN BLUE DAWN LIQUID).. mix that 10% solution wiht water & spray it on your yard
For the home:
Mix Borax with Salt. pour on your carpet
Vacume & throw away the bag
Sprinkle more on your carpet
Wait 3 days -- repeat vacume & throw away the bag
Fleas can come into your yard on small animals like squirrells
there really is not a need for heavy-duty chemical bug killers if the only problem is fleas
Please, try to do this without harmful chemicals & be nice to Earth :)
Spray rid a bug all along the perimeter of the house. Since you haven't got pets, I suggest getting the appropriate number of foggers for the sq footage of living space you've got.
Did you just move into a rental? Perhaps the people before you had a pet.
At any rate, it could be spiders...the foggers will take care of a number of insects. Set them off before you go to work...and VIOLA! By the time you get home...the smoke/air has cleared.
Use malathian. It can be bought at just about any garden center, Home Depot, Menards, Walmart, etc.
Do you have pets? If so, the first thing you MUST do is go to the pet store or your VET and get FRONTLINE or ADVANTAGE OR a flea medication your VET recommends. Don't get an imitation, they don't work. Apply the Flea drops on the back of each pet's neck. (or however they recommend applying.) You have to do this once a month in order to never get fleas again, and you won't if you do the following:
This stuff is like a miracle.
Then go to the grocery store or hardware and get a box of BORAX. Sprinkle the Borax on the carpeting. Let it sit there for about 1/2 hour, then vaccuum it all up. Vaccuum EVERYWHERE, EVEN IN THE CLOSETS. Fleas will attach themselves to your socks, shoes, long pants. You can pick up fleas from other peoples houses, too. You MUST vaccuum every day for about a week in order to get rid of these pests. Wash all area rugs and wet mop (swifter) all hardwood floors. Change your sheets and put the comforter in the dryer for 15 minutes, in case the pets might have laid on them. Then vaccuum all the furniture.
Wow, you will need a rest when you are done with this. But better to get rid of them now, once and for all, then to constantly be bitten on the legs and ankles and even when in bed. Fleas will get into other hairy areas of the body... oh, boy, yes, this is true.
Don't bother spending money on spraying the yard... fleas live outdoors and will always be there, so spraying is a waste of money.
Good luck.
