How do I get back at someone that has dumped something on my lot?

Question:We recently bought a home in a different town. THe city has called us to inform us that we had a used sofa set outside. However, it is not one that we placed there. The "welcoming" neighbors put it there in our backyard. But, since we are the new people the city thinks we did it. IS there a way I can get them back? What should I do?

Answers:
Your neighbors obviously do not want you in their neighborhood. Unfortunately, times have not changed. You should have filed a police report as soon as they dumped the item on your property. No one will believe you if these incidents are not properly documented. Nowadays, you do have more protection from the police as it relates to this sort of thing and you could eventually take legal action if this harassment becomes a recurring problem. Be prepared for other forms of harassment in the future. If possible, get a home security system that includes not only an alarm system, but also video surveillance to catch the culprits in action. I hope you have an aggressive dog as well. Just make sure that you keep it from leaving your yard. Also, keep a disposable camera at all times so that you can photograph anything else that they throw your way. Inasmuch as you are angry and feel tempted to retaliate, don't go that route because you could start out right and end up wrong. Go to the police each time something happens and let them do their job.

Just remove it. The people who got rid of the sofa saw an empty space, dumped, and fled. There's really nothing you can do to "get back" at them.

Besides, is that the way you want to start life in your new neighborhood? You don't know if this was intentional or not. You want to begin life as you mean to go by being friendly and open until you know your neighbors well. Don't start out by being grouchy. That makes life very uncomfortable.
you cannot do anything till u know 4 certain, who did that, it will most likely be someone whose backyard adjourns yours, bring that to the attention to of your local authority (of new residence) for possible prosecution of illegal dumping. if that doesn't work. wait till midnight, wear dark clothing, fertilize their yard really good, but not 2 much 2 kill grass. let them work hard in the yard since they were 2 lazy or cheap 2 take 2 dump. do all this with out laughing.
Since you just move there, you might regret doing something that would accelerate a conflict. If the furniture is at all usable, maybe you could list it on a Freecycle group in your area and someone could pick it up and use it. If it's not, maybe your town has a "bulky rubbish" day. Call your city hall and see, our town had one quarterly, you had to call in to city hall and get on a list, but there was no charge for pick up. I empathize with the bad neighbor thing, but maybe they deserve a second chance.
There is no future in revenge. Even if there was how would you know which neighbors it was. Kill them with kindness. It is better for your insides to be kind.
how immature. get back at them?! just let it go.
.just for get it, you remove it and for get taking revenge as you don't know what sort of people are leaving there you could get in a big trouble so just leave it .
I had this problem once. I knew for certain who was doing the dumping. I knocked on their door and asked them nicely to remove their stuff from my land. They said it was not their stuff. This house was a in a fancy sub division that backed up to my land. The only way to get to that spot on my land was an over grown logging road, a half mile thru the woods and the dumper chose the only spot with a house just a few feet from it to dump it? So I went out and loaded up a pick up with trash and piled it right by their house, on my land, along with all the stuff that was scattered on my land. When they came out of the house to see what i was doing, I told them this looked like a good place for me to dump my trash too. They hauled all of it off after I left.
