Peanut butter coloured mould?

Question:I have a tomato plant in my office that was recently replanted. There is a peanut butter coloured mould growing in the soil on the surface. Is this bad? Should I replant it something else? Could this be why it is not making fruit?

Answers:
Mold of any color on top of your soil is not good. You need a new pot and fresh soil. Knock off as much of the old soil as you possibly can before putting it in the new. If you want to reuse the same pot, it should be thoroughly cleaned with bleach water (possibly soaked) and thoroughly dried. It is possible that the mold will inhibit the growth of fruit, but the more likely reason for that is the fact that the plant is indoors. Tomato plants need a good amount of sun and bees (or other pollinators) in order to make fruit. Sun will help the plant make flowers, bees pollinate the flowers and then you get tomatoes. No sun, no bees... no fruit.
