Trying to reduce the amount of ants in yard?

Question:Ok i know I probably can't get 'rid' of them but i can try to reduce the amount..I read somewhere that you could sprinkle sweet n low and that would get rid of them...My questions are whats in the sweet n low that kills them and what are some other ways to reduce the ants n my yarD?

Answers:
I have used a 50/50 solution of boric acid and confectioners sugar with great success. You will find boric acid at the pharmacy. Mix the boric acid with the sugar and add water to make a runny paste. Then pour it around the holes and they will eat it and die. It also works inside if you put it in a little dish near their trails. Don't look for a day or two though because the number of ants in the dish can be downright frightening

Increase the amount of birds in your yard, and add two bird baths, put out bird seed for the birds, then they will eat ants also, I believe.

Or hire an exterminator.
Are they fire ants? If so, I have tried many products, but Amdro has been most effective. I've never heard of the Sweet-n-Low thing, but I'd sure like to know about it!
nutrasweet will work but benificitiol nematodes will work better but fire ants kill termits
