How do i get rid of ants?

I would suggest you try Nippon. Its very effective in destroying the nest.
I use powder cinnamon at home. For some reason they don't like it. But I don't know if that will work for you.
The only thing taht works for us are those ant baits you can get in any grocery or discount store. The white ant baits work the best.
The little house things that they can go into are the best. They get food in there (which contains poison) and when they bring it back to the anthill, everyone eats it and it kills the entire colony.

A friend had ants walking all over his kitchen, he liked them- his dad didn't.
The dad bought this little plastic disc a bit like an ice hockey puck and voila- no ants within a week!
Basically the worker ants take this poison back to the nest and kill off the whole colony.

When I was living in Brooklyn we had a major infestation of ants. It's like they had formed a unified attack plan on our apartment. I spoke to a neighbor that had gone through the same thing and he told me to use those "Combat" ant disks. He said the key was to lay down twice the number of disks that were suggested on the box. I followed his advice, and within a week, no more ants. Unlike the powder, the bait in Combat smells like food to the ants. They take it back to the colony, and the entire colony is destroyed.
You can pick them up at any hardware store or most drugstores.

Trouble is that powdering around the outside means that they are already inside! You have several options powders and traps are good, but you have to keep trying different types to find one that sorts out your ants. The local council should be able to send someone around to take a look, that's what we did and they could have sprayed the place and charged us but instead recommended the type of spray to use ourselves, located the main nest (pour in boiling water was the advice) and no charge. Excellent!
Get some traps in the consevatory before they take over!
Try boiling hot water - or buy an aardvark
use a cheap oven cleaner they take it to the nest we find it a good solution
Ant Stop is very good. It is a liquid spray which acts as a barrier. I know Homebase sell it. We know it works because we have just used it.
