Can I use food coloring in my swimming pool?
Question:I have a 12,000 gallon swimming pool in the back yard with a very light blue bottom. Is it crazy to assume that adding a bottle of blue food coloring would give the water a slightly more exotic look? Regardless, I want to try it but want to make sure it won't hurt anything. Or will the chlorine bleach the food color away. Thanks!
Answers:
They make special pool dye for this purpose.
See http://www.poolcenter.com/pool_party_poo...
shouldnt hurt anything, its just dye
haha i have never thought of that..it would take a lot of food coloring to turn it blue.and you would probably come out of the pool looking like a smurf... = ]
I think it won't be harmful, but I have heard blond hair becomes green when there's chlorine. So maybe people's hair will become green.
you migh die you togs, skin or hair??
I don't know about the chlorine bleaching out the food coloring, but it would take ALOT of food coloring to tint a 12,000 gallon pool. Perhaps you can try scooping a bucket of water out of the pool and add a few drops of coloring to see what happens.
I hope this helps!
It's true that the chlorine will negate the dye in your food coloring. If you want exotic, wait til the season's over, drain it and have a design painted on the bottom or sides. You could also have a landscape designer create a 'natural' theme around it, incorporating plants, rock and waterfalls.
Hey - don't you think that swimming in a pool full of blue food coloring would turn you into a big Smurf? or a Blue Man Group groupie? (Bloupie?)
Buy what is called a "Night Liter" and it will not only light up the pool at nite but you can have a choice of 5 different colors, works great and there only around $80.
