House slabs?

Question:I am currently planning on building a house of approx 140 sqm in size on a small block of land (330 sqm) in Franklin, ACT. The soil classification is 'H'.

I have approached different builders and all seem to suggest different foundation for the above soil classification. The different options I heard so far are
1) Footings
2) Waffle Slab
3) Raft slab.

Each builder is supporting their type of foundation and criticising others. Could one of your experts please suggest me on the type of foundation that is good for 'H' soil classification and also if possible give a brief of each technique.

Answers:
Waffle slabs break up or crack and become useless
Raft slabs in groups will shift in time and break up a home
A whole raft slab will shift or break
Multiple footings set deep and re-enforced with surface slabs under a re-enforced home frame

imagine a deer walking on ice...
same deer with wheels/skates/ice shoes and leg braces and a walking trainer

I am guessing you have wet or loose soil with serious bug problems.

presuming this...

suggest a stronger idea to your builders.

add layers of varying sized gravel to deter the various sized bugs

if they balk, get another builder or just give up. you cant change idiots in charge of an area you can only shove them aside.

yet another reason walmart brings in their own builders and irritates the locals...

hhmm...I think you're asking in the wrong country.try scrolling down to the correct one at the bottom of the page and ask there...this is the US.
