Is it cheaper to have a home built rather than to just buy a home (2-3 years old)?
Question:
Answers:
it depends...you have to purchase an already taxed/constructed/hooked up home verses buying land, making sure it can be built on, having house constructed, having water elec sewer gas heat hooked up, getting taxed for the first time with the new dwelling...ect... it depends...are you going through a developer or on your own?
NO!
To build.
I just built a new home. my brand new home costs the same as some of the homes built a few years back.
this is like comparing apples to oranges. either one can be more valuable. there are many reasons: location, land value, value and size of the actual house, etc.
a good rule of thumb is to buy the smaller house is the neighborhood with bigger better houses. WHY? because, people who are climbing and want to upgrade and yet CANT afford the bigger house, will buy YOUR house just to get in the neighborhood. as long as the house suits your needs, enough space, enough rooms, in good enough condition so as not to be a money drain, good location for work, school, relatives, etc. it will be a good investment, a place to live comfortably, and a real money maker when its time to sell.
It can be. Unfortunately, the prices of building materials go up and down just like gas prices do, and if you end up being able to build during one of the down times, you can end up saving a lot of money by building. Also on the unfortunate side, from what I have heard, since Hurrican Katrina, these materials have been on the up. Don't quote me on that, though. It's definitely worth checking into. On the bright side, at least when you build, you get exactly what you want, and won't have to spend the extra money remodeling because the people who lived there before had a different taste than you.
cheaper how?
in just money...maybe if you have extremely specific requirements for calling a house a home..
but we have LOTS of empty houses that have already used our natural resources.so why not take a "pre-loved house"?
if evertything HAS to be new for you to be happy then do what you think is right but if you can accept less then brand spanking new I would consider that conservation of natural resources
Better to built than to buy.If you built ,you can design it and budget the cost within your limit. If you buy,you can to pay extra for all the sales and purchase fees and etc.
